Keynote Speaker

  • Professor Hao-Yun Kao PhD

    Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan

Title: Vaccination behavior during COVID-19 pandemic as an example for exploring the application of social science research in the healthcare administration

  • Abstract: This presentation focuses on applying social science research to healthcare management. In addition to examining vaccination behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic, it also includes discussing interdisciplinary research applications. For example, researchers from disciplines such as psychology, sociology and behavioral economics study various factors that influence individual decisions about vaccine uptake. T These include beliefs, attitudes, social norms, trust in government, and access to and acceptability of health services. Understanding these influences allows health care managers to develop effective strategies to improve vaccine acceptance and uptake. Psychological research uncovers cognitive biases and heuristic approaches that influence risk perception and information processing. Moreover, the sociological analysis highlights the role and impact of social networks, communities and cultural beliefs. In addition, research in behavioral economics explores the impact of incentives and technology adoption. By applying these results, decision-makers can design communication strategies, fostering trust through transparent information sharing and working with social networks and stakeholders such as health care providers and community organizations. This will facilitate the implementation of comprehensive vaccination plans and ensure their effectiveness. Integrating social science research approaches into health care management considers vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and new changes and impacts during public health crises. As such, future research on behavioral aspects will also influence policy advocacy factors, requiring re-evaluation and further investigation.
